Hello everyone.
As you can see, my hand is closed. But what could be in my hand? Maybe 500 yen? A diamond? Could it be a spider? Here, let me show you… Nothing! We can’t bring props to the speech contest, but who needs them anyway! We have our imaginations!
How often do you use your imagination? I use mine every day! One day I imagined myself standing here, giving a speech, and here I am! I wouldn’t be here right now without imagining it first! Our imaginations help us improve our lives. But, we all use our imaginations in different ways. For example, right now I am very nervous, so I am imagining you all as potatoes, and the judges as cute bunnies.
We all imagine in different ways! Good, and bad things, big and small! I can imagine a chocolate ice cream, and 20 minutes later I’m at the convenience store buying one! Sometimes our imaginations also make things that are impossible, like growing some wings and flying to the moon, or travelling back in time to prevent the invention of homework. I’d really love to do that! But, how many times have you imagined something fantastic, but never tried to make it real? All those dreams are lost…
I think that our imagination is one of the most important things our brains can do, and so I would like you all to try this experiment with me. Please all close your eyes. Close your eyes and let’s use our imagination together in an amazing way. Imagine this. You are sitting in a room, just like this one, and there is a student giving a speech. She has just delivered the best speech in the history of speeches. Okay, now open your eyes.
Thank you very much for listening.
